#4000Hours for charity… the Macro way

By Kirstie Loft, Operations Manager, Macro

It’s International Day of Charity, and what better opportunity to celebrate all of the work we do in supporting our local communities.

By the end of 2016 the Mace Foundation (UK registered charity) will have donated £1.6million to over 200 charities and worthy causes; giving back to the communities where Mace works.

Mace people, clients and supply chain partners really are at the heart of the Mace Foundation. With their support, we are helping to:

  • create real opportunities
  • inspire young people through education and employment
  • invest in long term support of local communities
  • make a difference to the lives of people impacted by health and wellbeing issues

All of the supporters bring endless energy, empathy, passion, enthusiasm and commitment to helping others. This has been invaluable to helping grow our charity partnerships, pro-bono aid and volunteering programmes.

All of Macro’s team members, globally, are entitled to take a paid day away from work in order to carry out volunteering activities of our choice.

By sharing our knowledge, skills and abilities through community activities, programmes and organisations we are making a real difference; as well as helping to develop and build a range of skills that we can take back to the workplace. Last year, Mace employees volunteered 9,375 hours – making a measurable contribution to local communities, wildlife and habitats whilst having fun along the way!

The Foundation is able to make a real difference through our charity partnerships and we have worked strategically with Coram, LandAid, Mind, The Prince’s Trust, RedR, Teenage Cancer Trust and WheelPower.

Others choose to use their paid volunteering day to take part in activities to support the work of a particular charity or cause of their own choice, such as joining a reading scheme with a local primary school, cooking meals for the elderly or supporting a local food bank/homeless shelter etc.

The Mace Foundation aims to achieve a target of 50% employees actively engaged and participating in volunteering and fundraising by 2020, and Macro has committed to #4000Hours to contribute to this.

How are we doing?  Follow us on Twitter today, as we’ll be sharing some short stories from our team members on how they’re making a difference and working towards us achieving #4000hours of time and effort to support charities, local communities, and the wider facilities management industry.
